Roots of common dandelion contain up to 40 weight % of inulin, large number of amino sugars (up to 20 wt.%) and natural gum (2-3wt.%). These compounds are responsible for the most important medicinal properties of this plant. Dandelion roots are considered valuable for the content of taraxacin glycoside (up to 15 % by autumn), triterpene compounds, fatty oil, organic acids and alcohols, resinous compounds, bioflavonoids, as well as minerals, including necessary for human body calcium. The intake of inulin or inulin-containing products enhances calcium absorption more than twice, thus, increasing bone mineral density. Taraxacin glycoside enhances production of factors of cartilage tissue regeneration by the liver. Dandelion is the only plant that is contributive to the birth of new cartilage cells – chondrocytes.
Vitamin С reinforces beneficial effects of dandelion acting as synergist. This is a strong antioxidant that reduces the effects of free radicals, enhances immune system, prevents ageing processes and negative consequences of stresses.
